In Islam, the wife must obey her husband because men are more able to bear this responsibility, just as women are more able than men to take care of the children and the household affairs. Also, men are obliged to spend on their wives; the wife does not have to work or earn a living.

If a husband wants to make his wife live with her in-laws, such as his mother or sister or daughter from another marriage or another relative, and she refuses to accept that, then he has to provide her with an accommodation of her own.
