Funerals and rulings on graves
Are Gravestones Prohibited in Islam?
There is nothing wrong with marking a grave with a stone or a piece of wood to know where it is. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) marked the grave of `Uthman ibn Madh`un.204,099Suicide in Islam
Suicide is a major sin in Islam. Prophet Muhammad stated that the one who commits suicide will be punished with what he used to kill himself. Suicide is not disbelief that puts a person beyond the pale of Islam, as some people think. Rather it is a major sin that is subject to the Will of Allah on the Day of Resurrection: if He Wills, He will forgive it, and if He Wills He will punish for it. The Prophet refrained from offering the funeral prayer for one who had committed suicide, as a punishment to him and so as to deter others from doing the same. But he allowed people to offer the funeral prayer for him, so it is Sunnah for the people of knowledge and virtue not to offer the funeral prayer for one who has committed suicide.276,241Is it prescribed to talk to the dead when visiting graves?

6,407Can You Uncover the Deceased’s Face to Kiss Him?
The basic principle is that the face of the deceased is to be covered, but it is permissible to uncover it in order to kiss him or look at him. However, there is no basis in Islamic teachings for regarding that as obligatory or even recommended.83,989How to Bury the Deceased
• The Sunnah is to put the deceased into the grave from the end, then he should be turned onto his right side in the grave, with his face directed towards the Qiblah. • The one who puts him into the Lahd (niche in the grave) should say, “Bismillahi wa ‘ala sunnat Rasul-Allahi or ‘ala millat Rasul-Allahi. • It is recommended for those who are at the grave to throw handfuls of earth, three handfuls scooped up in both hands, after the Lahd has been sealed.140,624The one who offers the funeral prayer will have a qirat of reward, even if he does not come out with the bier from the house of the deceased
3,175Types of Graves in Islam
1- The scholars unanimously agreed that burial in the Lahd and burial in the Shaqq are both permissible. However, if the ground is stable and the soil will not collapse then the Lahd is preferable, otherwise the Shaqq is preferable. 2- The soil should not be filled in directly on the face or body of the deceased, whether the grave is a Lahd or a Shaqq54,321
