Ruling on cleaning the teeth of the deceased with miswaak

Question: 43079

What is the ruling on cleaning the teeth of the deceased with miswaak?.

Answer

Praise be to Allah, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. To proceed:

I do not know of any basis for doing that, rather the deceased should be washed with wudoo’ then ghusl. If the miswaak is used when rinsing out his mouth there is nothing wrong with that, as in the case of the living.
