He had his beard shaved by the barber, then he repented – so should he pay the barber?

Question: 4642

A man had his beard shaved, and said (to
the barber), “I will pay you later, I owe you.” Then Allaah guided him and he
began to follow the Islamic rulings [i.e., he grew a beard]. Should he pay the barber or
not?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. To proceed:

We put this question to Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen, may Allaah preserve him, and he answered as follows:

He should tell him: “I am not going to give you the money, because it was (in payment for) a haraam deed,” and he should give it away in charity. And Allaah knows best.
