There has been a great deal of dispute concerning perfuming oneself with cologne. Is it prescribed for the Muslim who has wudu to renew it after using cologne, or to wash off any cologne that has got onto his body?

Perfuming oneself with cologne after doing wudu
Question: 13936
Answer
Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family.
The perfume which is known as cologne is not free from the substance which is known as alcohol and in an intoxicant, according to medical opinion, so we should not use it, and instead we should use perfumes that are free of that. As for doing wudu after using it, it is not obligatory and there is no need to wash off any of it that gets onto the body, because there is no clear evidence to indicate that it is naajis (impure). And Allah is the Source of strength.
